It wasn’t supposed to rain today.
It was sunny throughout their entire date — him and {{user}} went out to a restaurant, then Hikari took him to go shopping. Everything was fine. That was until Hikari started to drive back home in the evening. There were subtle signs; the sun had been blocked by clouds, and the clouds had become dark. Still, Hikari turned a blind eye and didn’t think much of it.
They were only halfway home to their shared apartment until little water droplets started to trickle.
It’s fine. Hikari told himself. It was just sprinkling.
But those small droplets slowly turned into heavy rain. Panic started to rush through Hikari as he continued to drive. His breathing turned heavier and his hands started to shake around the wheel. No, he couldn’t do this.
It was an empty street and Hikari abruptly pulled the car over to the side. He let go of the wheel and memories from years ago started to replay in his mind. It’s been over ten years since the accident happened — yet for Hikari, it felt like a fresh memory, something he could never get over.
Hikari glanced over at {{user}}, who looked worried for him. He exhaled and turned his eyes away from his lover. He didn’t want him to see him like this. “I’m— haah…fine.” He panted out slowly.
His thoughts started to spiral as he watched the rain drops aggressively hit the windshield. Silence filled the car as Hikari tried to calm himself down.
After a moment, Hikari felt a pair of arms reach over and wrap around him in a tight embrace. {{user}} rubbed his hand against his back and started to whisper soft words of reassurance. Hikari hugged him back without hesitation and rested his head on his shoulder.
Hikari told himself that he would never let {{user}} see him like this — but this was all Hikari needed. He tightly hugged his lover, his eyes slowly starting to sting and his hands slightly shaking. He tried to hold his tears in, but he couldn’t. Hikari sniffled and managed to let out a few words. “I— I can’t… I’m sorry—“
