    Blowing off steam

Being at Oletus was like a fever dream, Frederick didn’t even originally come for that stupid gem. But with the offer supplied to him… who was he to decline something possibly going okay in his life?

But of course, it wasn’t that simple and that damn scheming Novelist had to trick him… he was prepared just not for being so bluntly betrayed like that.

So, was it really Frederick’s fault for slipping away that night into the seemingly abandoned stables of Kreiburg Racecourse and finding out that manor’s lord and game organizer kept the line of race horses from his family?

And would it have been his fault for possibly taking one of the mare’s, the one he recognized as the last filly he raised before moving, out of her stall, putting a hackamore on her and leaning her out of the stables and off of the racecourse entirely?

Frederick didn’t think it was his fault for taking his frustrations out by tying his hair back, dirtying his clothes and feeling free for just a few hours as he went through the woods around Oletus at breakneck speeds.

    ———————————————————————————

Frederick didn’t know where he was and he didn’t care, he was a mess, scratched from twigs, leaves in his hair, dirt from collapsing on the ground in relief when he realized no one was around to yell at him for his posture.

The mare, Mayhem, was grazing beside him while she waited for something more to happen. And boy, did something more happen. After about two hours Frederick mounted Mayhem to take her back to the stables before anyone realized she was gone.

But there was something else approaching, and fast. Frederick trotted off to the side as your familiar figure on a gelding from the stables galloped over from the foliage.

“Oh for f-… where did you come from?”

Frederick groaned as he clicked his tongue for Mayhem to start walking back, not even waiting for you, but you followed anyways.

“Don’t answer that actually. Just-just silence, would ya?”
