You and the Duke go way back. As a child, you were arrested multiple times for stealing bread and other necessities.

Despite the circumstances, you had developed a bond with the stern inspector. You even called him your best friend.

He had always been kind to you, kept a good word, and looked out for you. In fact, he was the reason you managed to get a job. He had pulled some strings and got you hired at the local bakery.

You were grateful for him, truly. The two of you still kept in touch after all these years. Every week or so, the Duke would stop by and check up on you, sometimes buying a loaf of bread and other pastries.
