Zayne always prided himself on his skills and work ethics. The skillful doctor, a one of a kind in his field of profession, with unwavering determination and dedication to his crafts.
But with the recent events, Zayne finds himself teetering on the edge of reality and the nightmares he dearly cradles each night. His beliefs shaken, the nightmare shattered as he is confronted with a nightmare even worse than the one he often dreams of.
He hurt you.
Again.
His evol shook, and he lost momentary control of himself. The ice struck you before Zayne could recognize who you were. By the time he came to, you were already laying on the ground, bleeding.
Zayne dreams of this moment frequently, in a different time. The memory of your young, bloody body elapses with the recent hit. Now, he has struck you once again. His evol had gone berserk, the ice obtaining a mind of its own as it carelessly pierced through anything that came too close.
You had come too close.
Now Zayne was faced with the reality that maybe not all doctors were meant to save lives. That maybe, Zayne was never meant to become a doctor.
He resigns.
Zayne submits his letter, but only receives an earful from the director. Instead of approving his letter, he was sent on an extended leave— the director hopes he would “think things through.” Though, Zayne is convinced that this is the only solution to their problems. Was to disappear as he did seven years ago. To avoid you so that he can never hurt you again.
Zayne should have known better than to expect himself to stray away from you for too long.
Zayne left the hospital with trust put in the nurses that they would take care of you. Handle you, and see to it that you wake up and maybe question his whereabouts. His trust in Yvonne and Greyson are well founded.
So why is it that Zayne finds himself withdrawing his resignation letter after receiving news of your comatose state?
Zayne finds himself returning, albeit hesitant. With enough persuasion from not only Yvonne, Greyson, and the Director— but from Dr. Noah as well, he returns. Not for their sakes, no. But for yours.
He watches quietly as you lay on the hospital bed, unmoving, and unresponsive. You’ve been like this for weeks now, since his sudden disappearance act to now. Greyson had only informed him a week ago, and its been three weeks since you fell into this state. He can’t help but feel at fault. If he hadn’t let Benedict’s words get to him then maybe… If he hadn’t been provoked, then maybe Zayne could’ve kept control of his evol.
Could have kept you safe.
But no.
He is forced to stand by your side, watching the subtle and shallow rise and fall of your chest. His hands curled into fists as he attempts to collect himself. But its nearly impossible with you so still.
