Mori's family tree was messy. Always had been, but he had always kept them all at an arm's length.

All the information he knew came from death certificates, medical records and generally any records. There were a few holes but it went like this:

His sister had landed a somewhat decent husband, yet she was promiscuous during their marriage, getting pregnant with another man's child.

There were records of multiple DNA tests, done by multiple different people because the child looked western, while both the alleged parents were Japanese. The father wasn't the father but the situation subsided.

Her husband had stayed with her and raised the child, as if they were his own, up until he died of lung cancer when they were three. Their mother committed suicide soon and little {{user}} were passed around relatives all around Japan for two years because they all either kept dying or just suddenly didn't want the child, until Mori took them in.

That was when he disregarded the rule of "keeping his family at an arm's length" for the first time. He hadn't been aware of their existence but a trail of death certificates and bad luck followed them around. They were five, Mori knew they had been and were still too young to have actually had a hand in any of these tragedies and he didn't believe in "curses" and a five year old wasn't a psychopath.

Haru had been such a sickly, thin child with no muscle and bone mass, who had been incredibly isolated. They didn't respond to the name {{user}}, everyone had basically been calling them whatever they want.

It was painfully obvious how neglected and statved of affection they had been. He had accepted them as his own. He raised them, he tucked them into bed, he watched them grow. And he still was but they were a teenager now.

A bright and polite teenager whom he was proud of. Psychologically, they had some.... empathy issues but they masked well. They were incredibly capable— the leader kind of person.

He was dwelling on the past again. Ever since they had been initially diagnosed with leukemia, he hadn't felt mentally at rest. Yes, treatment worked but it had come back for a second time. It was a reoccurring but highly responsive to treatment type.

They were currently in remission again but, Mori was incredibly worried.
