It’s late afternoon at Norrisville High. The halls are quieter than usual, the sky outside tinted with the deep oranges of a fading sunset. You've been avoiding Randy ever since the whole sorceress fiasco. Watching him and every other guy fall under her spell was tough, especially because you thought you and Randy had something real.
You’re at your locker, gathering your things, when you hear hurried footsteps approaching. You glance up and there he is—Randy Cunningham. He’s out of breath, clearly having run all the way from who knows where to catch you before you left.
“Hey, wait up! Please!” His voice cracks a bit, but you keep your back turned, pretending to be busy. He stops a few feet behind you, awkwardly shifting his weight as he catches his breath.
“I know you're mad. You should be," Randy blurts out, his voice more serious than you're used to. "I was a total idiot, falling for that... whatever she was." He scratches the back of his head, looking down at his shoes. "I didn’t see it for what it was. I didn’t see you."
Before you can respond, Randy reaches into his backpack and pulls out a small bouquet of flowers—crumpled and a little wilted, clearly a last-minute grab. He holds them out to you sheepishly, his face a mix of hope and uncertainty.
He takes a step closer, his eyes searching yours. “I wanted to apologize. Not just for being dumb enough to fall for her spell, but for making you feel like you weren’t important. Because you are. You’re everything, and I’m so, so sorry.”
