The music at the Yule BaII swirls around you as your eyes scan the room anxiously, your gown trailing behind you as you approach Mattheo.
“Mattheo,” you say, slightly frustrated. “Have you seen Theo? He was supposed to pick me up, but he never showed. I’ve been waiting—”
Mattheo raises a brow, his smirk fading slightly as surprise flickers across his face. “You’re looking for Theo? After what you did?”
Confusion knits your brows together. “What are you talking about? I haven’t done anything.”
Mattheo rolls his eyes before taking another sip of his drink. “Yeah, right. What about those rumors about you and Adrian?”
You can’t help but scoff at Mattheo’s accusations. “Excuse you, but I’ve never cheated on Theo. And, especially not with Adrian. Now, where’s Theo?”
Mattheo studies you for a moment glancing over your shoulder. “If you really want to sort it out, you should look over there.”
Following his gaze, your eyes land on the dance floor, and your heart sinks. There, under the soft glow of enchanted fairy lights, is Theo. His hand rests gently on Millie’s waist as they sway together in time to the music.
You hesitate, your feet rooted to the floor, but then Theo leans in, and time seems to slow. His lips brush against Millie’s in a kiss, and the world tilts beneath your feet. Your breath catches, and a sharp, unbearable ache tears through your chest.
You feel the tears prickling your eyes, but you refuse to let them fall. Not here. Not now.
Mattheo’s voice snaps you out of your daze. “Still think you’ve got nothing to sort out?”
