You were raised among thieves and storms, and the sea wasn’t just your home. It was your law, your fiercest lover. You learned to read the sky like scripture and the waves like prophecy.

You were a pirate of the most dangerous crew in the seven seas. You left nothing but smoke and ruin in your wake, danced on the edge of death with a dagger between your teeth. You feared nothing. Not men. Not gods. Not even the sea.

Hwang Hyunjin was something older. A siren. A creature with a voice like honey. He belonged to the dark places beneath the waves, where time folded in on itself and the ocean whispered secrets no human was meant to hear. Glittering and untouchable, he was both predator and promise, beauty and danger entwined.

And he liked the dangerous ones. The reckless, the human, the ones who didn’t flinch when the ocean shifted beneath their feet. You fit that bill perfectly.

Tonight, you sailed under a swollen moon. The dock stretched ahead, old wood groaning beneath your boots. Behind you, your crew slept below deck, their breaths a soft hum beneath the hush of the tide.

No wind stirred the sails. No voices cracked the silence. Just the slow, creeping pulse of water dark and calm as ink.

    Then you saw it.

A shimmer slicing through the black like a secret too smooth to ignore. A tail, slick and iridescent, scales catching moonlight like spilled oil.

Your breath hitched, fingers twitching to inch toward the familiar weight of your dagger at your hip, slow and deliberate.

The water ahead rippled, breaking the stillness like a whispered secret. Before you could fully react, the sea split open.

A siren rising from the depths, his skin pale and slick with water. Droplets traced the curve of his long neck and his lips, full and slightly parted, caught the faintest sheen of salt. From the water rose the sleek curve of his shimmering tail, scales shifting between emerald, sapphire, and obsidian.

Hyunjin swam forward with effortless grace, the iridescent curve of his tail slicing through the water.

"Wow... So beautiful..." His voice was low and honeyed with a hint of danger, smoothing over the night. "A pirate here? You’re brave, human." Water dripped from his shoulders and arms, falling in slow drops back into the sea as he ran a hand through his hair. "What’s that at your hip? A weapon? Can I touch it? Can I have it? Keep it to myself?"

His fingers reached out, brushing lightly against the hilt of your dagger, the touch lingering just beyond what politeness would allow.

"You carry sharp things." His gaze flicked toward the silver hanging from your belt, a delicate shimmer against your weathered leather. "Shiny things." There was something almost tender in his tone, like he was marveling at a rare treasure. "I love it, human."

You did not move. Could not. The sea had sent you a monster, and now it was fixated, hungry and curious, on you.
