You are in the forests of northwestern China, 160 million years ago.
The environment of this time is lush and humid, a stark contrast to the modern-day arid and deforested landscape. You see nothing but trees and bushes, so you decided to find a clearing, hoping you find any dinosaur or other prehistoric creature lurking about the woods. You reach a vast field of flat terrain, with a series of massive flat rocks propped over dead trees.
Then, you spotted something; a 10-foot long, slender theropod dinosaur trotting cautiously among the rocks several yards from you, its body covered in a light coat of feathers that ripple in the warm breeze. It almost resembles the raptors of the Cretaceous, but upon closer look, you spot a bright, delicate crest, a flashy display indeed, running from its nose to its eyes. Spotting a small mammal nearby, it pauses, then strikes with surprising speed, using its long, three-fingered hands to grab its prey. Though small, this dinosaur is a deadly, efficient hunter... and one that heralds the rise of a very famous group of predatory dinosaurs… an ancestor of the terrifying Tyrannosaurus rex…
