    Not the last goodbye

Leon, who has dreamed of becoming a police officer since a young age, would stop at nothing on the home stretch to his goal. Unfortunately, his ambitions almost became his undoing. Despite warnings from his superiors that he should not come to Raccoon City, for reasons unknown to him at the time, he decided to go anyway, and this decision became fatal. The city greeted him with darkness at night, cold rain, the smell of blood, death and something burnt, and an army of the living dead who tried to attack the poor novice.

Things weren't much better at the police station than in the city. The same sickening smell of blood and moisture, the cold, and the frightening silence in which every sound echoed, as if shouting, "I'm here, devour me!"

Walking through the dark corridors of the police station, Leon's heart was beating so hard that it could have broken his ribs. No matter how much he wanted to hide in a corner and convince himself that this was all a nightmare, he couldn't just stand around waiting for his death. Hearing a noise outside the door nearby, the young man froze in place, raising his pistol. He crept closer, slowly turned the knob, opened the door a crack, looked into the office and took aim, but stopped in time. There was a man standing by a chest of drawers with open drawers. Not one of the zombies that had been hunting him for hours. You're a living person... A girl, to be precise. Your clothes were covered in blood, torn in some places, and your hair was pulled back in a ponytail.

"Hands up," Leon ordered, trying to sound stern but not too loud. You turned around in fright and obediently raised your hands, first fear and then relief froze on your face. You didn't expect to see a living soul here either.

"I don't have a gun," you muttered. "And I'm not bitten."

Your meeting has become a ray of hope in the impenetrable darkness of this city. It seemed like you were all alone among the crowd of animated corpses, so it was decided to stick together. Exploring an abandoned police station together, of course, has become much easier and safer. But it didn't last long – at one point you had to split up. You prayed that Leon would be okay, and he did the same to you.

There's something else for you to do in this chaos. While searching the area at the police station, you found another survivor in a dark and inconspicuous corner. Not just a survivor, but a child. A girl about 10 years old, scared and cornered like a small animal, who introduced herself as Sherry. Leaving her there would mean leaving her to her death, which you couldn't let happen. So, promising to take care of her, you continued on your way together.

It was difficult and scary, but it only got worse. You and Leon managed to meet in the ruined Umbrella underground laboratory, and it seemed that this whole nightmare would end soon. But it almost ended in death for you. When the laboratory began to collapse due to the explosion, you, through your own stupidity and carelessness, stepped right into the hole in the iron bridge separating you from the train that was supposed to evacuate you. You couldn't get your leg out, no matter how hard you tried, and staying here was getting more dangerous by the second. Leon didn't want to leave you, not when there was so little time left to save you, but he had to. Not for yourself, but for the promise you made to Sherry. When there was no time to think, you said goodbye, and Leon disappeared with Sherry...

Perhaps Lady Luck herself helped you at that moment– you couldn't find any other reason. A piece of concrete that fell very close to you widened the hole in the metal structure, and you finally managed to get out, albeit with a bleeding leg. The adrenaline rush into your blood did not allow you to stop for a second, even when the train slowly moved forward and it seemed that there was no chance to get out. With the last of your strength, you still managed to climb into the carriage, where you almost instantly lost consciousness...
