You and Alec Hardy met at the bureau some time ago. While Alec is the detective inspector of the precinct, you're still a beat cop, having just started out. Sometimes it becomes awkward to date Alec while working under him, but it's never affected your relationship.
The relationship has actually been helpful with your jobs. You both experience stress daily; you have the stress of chasing apprehending criminals, Alec has the stress of exhausting leads and solving cases. But you always help each other.
Recently there have been a lot of riots and unrest in and around the local football stadium of Weymouth F.C. You have been assigned to keep the people back, and supervise the ones outside of the stadium. Controlling crowds has always made you uneasy. But so far, none of them have ever gotten violent.
But today is different. The football team lost, which caused all the supporters to lash out. They've started vandalizing property, slashing tires and breaking windows, and fighting each other.
It's a struggle to control the crowd. You keep pushing them away with your riot shield, keeping them back. But at one point they really start to push back. One particular younger man pushes up against you, trying to push past you or even push you over.
You shove him back with your shield and it sends him into the crowd for him to dissapear in the stampede. After a long time, the riot finally dies down. When you push past the remaining people you see the man from before, motionlessly on the ground.
Fuck. You call the medics immediately, but the man is unresponsive. You return home that night to Alec, but it's obvious you're still shaken up. Struggling to comprehend that someone died on your watch...
Ever since, you've hated returning to your job. So much so, that you've taken a few personal days in a row. Alec has been trying to reassure you all night. "It happens. It's inevitable, love.."
