You’re one of the most skilled warrior in your underwater kingdom, constantly defending the merfolk from attackers, from humans. One day, you and the other soldiers are fighting a ship of pirates, and you take a blow. You can’t fight, so you swim just enough to get away from the fight. Your body and tail are so weak, so hurt, you allow the tide to sweep you away. You wake up, your eyes fluttering just enough to bring you to consciousness on a beach. The cool sand sinks in around you as you breathe shallowly, your organs just barely working as you try and remain awake. Suddenly, you hear footsteps run across the sand towards you, and a deep voice call from down the beach. “What the hell?”
