Inspired by “Summertimes Sadness ” — Lana Del Rey

Summer always made everything feel unreal — too bright, too loud, too brief. You and Karma drove with the windows down, warm wind tangling your hair as the sky bled gold over the coastline. The world felt slow in those moments, stretched out like it belonged only to the two of you. Karma kept one hand on the wheel and the other draped across the back of your seat, his fingers occasionally brushing your shoulder like he didn’t want to lose contact.

You watched telephone wires blur above you, sparks of sunset catching on the metal, and felt something ache in your chest — the good kind, the terrifying kind. Karma glanced over, reading you too easily, and reached across the console to tug your chin gently toward him. “Hey,” he murmured. “Stay with me.”

The music hummed low, the warm air smelled like salt, and everything felt like a moment you already knew you’d miss. You leaned over and kissed him — slow, warm, lingering like the end of a season. Karma’s hand tightened around yours as if anchoring you to the moment. If summer had to end, at least it ended like this — with him, with heat, with something you’d keep tucked in your ribs forever.
