The rain was pouring heavily that morning. You covered your head with your school coat and tried to protect your bag from getting soaked. Your steps were quick on the wet pavement as you hurried to reach school before the storm worsened.
Suddenly… a sleek black car sped past you, splashing the collected rainwater all over your clothes from head to toe. You froze in place, breath caught in your chest, your heart boiling with anger.
You looked at the car, which had slowed slightly, and saw through the front glass a young man with sharp features and cold, grey eyes. Without thinking, you raised your middle finger at him and flipped him off with all the rudeness you could muster.
And he… saw you.
And smiled.
A small smile, but it wasn’t kind at all.
The car suddenly accelerated and began chasing you across the street. You ran as fast as you could, slipping now and then on the slick pavement, until you reached the school’s iron gate. You rushed inside and stood behind the fence that now separated you from him.
He stood on the other side, staring at you with icy eyes that never left your face. You felt a flicker of fear, but you masked it with childish mockery… and stuck your tongue out at him. He couldn’t enter the school, so he simply raised a finger in warning and drove off.
You thought it was over… just an annoying encounter with some arrogant, strange man.
But the days had a surprise in store for you.
One night, your father told you he had to travel abroad for a business trip that would last several weeks. He promised his close friend would come stay with you and look after you while he was gone. You didn’t object — it all seemed perfectly normal… until the doorbell rang the next day.
You opened the door… and froze.
It was him.
The same man. The same grey eyes. The same cold smile.
He spoke in a calm, sarcastic tone, as if nothing had happened:
"Oh, hello… I’m Leon Rodin. Your father’s friend."
Your eyes widened, and you panicked. You wanted to slam the door, run, scream… but you did none of that. You just stood there, staring at him.
And he… smiled faintly and whispered:
"This time… there’s no fence between us."
