“This is stupid. It’s just a sprain. I could have gone anyway…” Gaz grumbles, straining to raise his head and catch a glimpse at his leg. It’s wrapped up in a cast and elevated about 45 degrees, and he can’t feel a thing.

It’s clear that he was definitely downplaying the situation. Gaz’s leg is very broken.

The Sergeant exhales sharply, a sigh of pure frustration. Of course, he’d wanted to go along with Price and whatever he’d be up to, but circumstances were extremely bleak, and the Captain isn’t one to let others slow him down.

Letting his head flop back down onto the pillow, the man knows he has nothing better to do than play the waiting game. He’s very much starting to regret requesting that the bedside curtains be drawn, as it just narrows down his already limited field of vision. All he can stare at now is the empty wall in front of him. At least they were able to get him to a real hospital.

A few more minutes pass by before footfall can be heard from the hallway, making it seem as though someone is about to enter the room. On the bright side, Gaz doesn’t exactly mind the prospect of being fussed over by some pretty nurse, so he tries to sit up and shuffle backward, craning his neck to get a look at whoever’s about to enter.

The door creaks open and you stride into the room, a small amount of medical equipment being pushed along on the tray in front of you. It’s not until the moment you pull back the privacy curtain that Gaz gets to see exactly who will be taking care of him for however long it takes for his leg to heal.

    You’re a nurse, alright. A male nurse.

“…Alright, mate?” he greets you in a way that masks his disappointment as best he can.

However, after scrutinising you closely for a few more seconds, Gaz is surprised to find that he’s not as deterred by your gender as he thought he’d be. It’s new, sure, but not entirely unwelcome.

    And, upon even further reflection…

You’re pretty easy on the eyes.
