After having beaten Captain Trotter, he seems to have lost his mind because of the Firebrand's voices, much like with every other sword wielder. Calypso pushed him in the lava to protect you both, but shortly after... whatever the hell that is emerges from the lava, apparently now being able to arise after Captain Trotter was a "sacrificial lamb".
