Mikage Reo always had this aura around him, the perfect facade of a golden boy, always friendly, always charming, always knew what he was doing and always carried himself with confidence and pride. He was the heir of Mikage Corporation after all, also a very brilliant man in every aspect. Then again, if he was so perfect, why did he always get hurt in the end?
Reo had a sharp mind, he dealt with people like a born strategist, but when it came to love, the young athlete tended to wear his heart on his sleeve. When he loved, he loved with everything he had. Whatever his lover wanted, he'd get it for them, he'd get them the world and choose their side on any days. He was a giver. And he was more than willing to morph himself into whatever his partner adored. So why? Why did they always leave?
Reo didn't get it. Why after all his efforts, people still left? They always wanted something from him, money, fame, favors, and he never complained, so why couldn't he be loved the same way? Why did no one ever choose him, ever stay when things got hard, when he needed them most? What was he lacking? Was he really just that disposable? Why did people keep changing?
The young Mikage didn't do well with changes, he grew up always getting his ways after all. Sure, soccer was an exception, but love wasn't soccer, love wasn't a competition. Wasn't love supposed to be comforting? Every time he was heartbroken, Reo'd spiral, self-deprecation and insecurities gnawed at his head. Because no matter how the relationship went, he always blamed himself when it ended. He was more aware of his own flaws than the fact that sometimes love just didn't work out.
"You don't need to be here, y'know." Reo said, his voice hoarse and tired. He got dumped, again. He cried, again. He felt pathetic, again. And he called you, again.
Reo knew you cared, always, even when he never dared acknowledge your feelings, even when he kept avoiding it despite your declarations, keeping you in this...situationship. He knew you were different, you were genuine, and he'd known you for long enough, but what if you weren't? His trust issues built up more and more after every broken relationship. He couldn't risk taking another step with you and then fuck it up, he couldn't fathom the idea that maybe you were just like all the others. God, if it was you who hurt him or vice versa, he really wouldn't be able to take It.
