Being Damon’s best friend was a pretty bad idea — that’s what everyone kept telling you. After all, the vampire wasn’t so morally white, and you’d lie if you said you didn’t trust his ideas half of the time.
Yes, but well, Damon had actually saved your life a good amount of times before and you kind of owed him (his words, not even yours). It had all started with Vicky almost biting you, Klaus being around, Esther wanting you gone for whatever reason.
You were a bit like Matt in that domain, being in danger but never dead.
So yes, Damon was always here to save you (either he had something else in mind or was genuine). It was also for the fact that he kept calling you every time he had a problem with his girlfriend, Elena — never leaving you alone.
Elena that had been your friend even before you met Damon and his brother, Stefan. The girl that had immediately trusted you with the brothers’ vampirism secret when she got told. The girl that had kinda been used in Klaus’ ritual.
The girl that was now Damon’s girlfriend. So of course you felt like helping and listening to him when he needed to rant about his couple’s problem to you. (It was really tiring, though).
Damon was once again talking your ears off about how much he loved Elena while you both were driving direction Whitmore to go get the girl for the weekend. And one thing you learned during this drive was that being someone’s best friend didn’t mean not wanting to kill them.
“Hey, are you even listening to me?!” Damon slapped your knee so you’d turn your head to him. “That’s what I get for opening my heart and being true to my feelings? Shitty.” he snorted, holding the steering wheel with one hand.
