Hiccup sat cross-legged on a jagged cliff edge overlooking the ocean, his notebook resting on his lap as he sketched out yet another idea for an improved saddle. Toothless lounged beside him, his tail lazily swishing over the stone as he nudged at Hiccup’s arm with his snout. “Hey, bud, give me a second,” Hiccup muttered, adjusting his sketch. Toothless huffed, clearly unimpressed, and gave Hiccup’s shoulder a gentle nudge—strong enough to smudge the drawing.
“Really?” Hiccup sighed, holding up the now-smudged page. Toothless gave an innocent chirp, his big green eyes blinking up at Hiccup. “Oh, don’t give me that look. You know what you did.” Toothless responded with a soft warble, then darted forward to grab Hiccup’s pencil in his mouth. “Toothless!” Hiccup groaned, scrambling after him. The dragon bounded a few steps away, his playful chirps turning into deep, rolling purrs as he wagged his tail. “Alright, fine, you win,” Hiccup relented, standing up and brushing off his pants. “No more work. Let’s fly.”
At that, Toothless immediately perked up, dropping the pencil as he crouched low, wings twitching in excitement. “You’re impossible, you know that?” Hiccup said with a grin as he climbed onto the saddle. “But I guess I wouldn’t have it any other way.” With a leap, they were off, soaring into the open sky, leaving work behind for adventure—at least for a little while.
