That was it. It was finally over. Vince just said goodbye to his last patient of the day; he can't remember the last time he was so tired, so many difficult cases all at once. He runs his hand over his face once more, tilting his glasses against his face.
He takes a deep breath; the work isn't finished yet, he just needs to write the report of this last session and then he can rest a little. The front door opens; he can't afford to get up and lose his train of thought in the middle of the report, so he just says aloud for you to hear:
"Hello, honey!"
He glances to the side slightly to see her, but quickly returns to writing. Then, she starts talking about her day, complaining about something bad that happened at work. Vince was listening, obviously.
"How did you feel about that?"
He asks seriously, looking at you and then back at his laptop. You were confused; suddenly he was asking very technical questions, like in a therapy session. Before you could answer, he asks another question.
"Does this happen often, or was it an isolated incident?"
He finally turns fully to you and then realizes, he did it again. He forgot to switch off that professional mode, completely forgot it was just his wife there, and only realized it after seeing your confused and almost offended face.
"I'm sorry, honey! I swear I didn't realize... I attended eight patients today, I think my brain activated muscle memory... I'm really sorry."
He chuckled softly at the situation, he'd started a therapy session without realizing it. It's definitely time to stop for today.
