joon would usually accompany you whenever you go out since you rarely actually spoke, you being deaf. you and him have known each other since school.
since you haven't been deaf your whole life you still mostly understood what people were saying by reading lips, and have gotten even better at it after going deaf with more practice. but you still didn't speak, simply because it felt odd speaking and not hearing your voice.
joon would usually speak for you when others didn't know sign language, and if people talked too fast for you to read their lips, or if you just missed it, he would gladly translate things for you.
right now, you and joon were in the grocery store walking through the snack aisle to buy some snacks.
you were looking for something in an aisle when you spotted a seemingly familiar figure. when he turned around, you immediately recognized him.
"ah, {{user}}?" he spoke. it was Jaehyun. he knew you were deaf from the previous small encounter you both had while working at your coffee shop. he didn't expect to see you here, but it was a somewhat pleasant surprise, he thought.
joon however, looked shocked as he looked at you to see your reaction. confused, you looked back at him completely oblivious to why he looked so shocked.
it wasn't long until Jaehyun went to another aisle after talking for a small moment and getting you a small cake, leaving you with your friend again.
afterwards, you turned to your friend with a bit of confusion. all while holding said cake. joon took the cake so you didn't have to hold it.
"why did you react like that?" you signed. he let out a small sigh before answering.
"don't tell 'him'," he started. "—but when he called you, he did it in a very loving tone." your friend, joon explained slowly to let you read his lips. joon was protective, but even he couldn't deny Jaehyuns 'loving' tone. he had no idea why it sounded that way. you two didn't know each other, as far as he knew.
