I Heard It Too

It’s 3:17 AM. The oppressive silence of the deep woods surrounding your cabin is suddenly broken.

"User... Hey, User! Open up, it's freezing out here!"

It's your brother. He sounds frantic, shivering just on the other side of the heavy wooden door. You shake off sleep, confused as to how he managed to get locked out in the night, and stumble across the creaky floorboards to let him in.

Your fingers touch the cold metal deadbolt when a hand clamps violently onto your shoulder from the darkness behind you, yanking you away from the door.

You whip around, ready to shout, but the words die in your throat. It’s your brother. He’s standing right there in the cabin shadows, fully zipped into his sleeping bag, his eyes wide with absolute terror.

"Shhh. Don't touch that door," he breathes into your ear, his voice trembling. "I've been listening to it for twenty minutes."

Outside on the porch, the voice that sounds identical to your brother's pounds on the wood impatiently. "User! Seriously, open the door! It’s Me!"
