Hawkins Indiana, Summer of 1985

Over the summer Robin got a job at the ice cream store scoops a’hoy at the mall, up until the last two weeks of summer when she has band camp. Recently… after Steve asked her out and she came out to him (risky move for the 80’s but he was oddly supportive) she’s noticed you. You worked at the local music store at the mall, she’s figured out from research that you give drum lessons, she’s recognized you from marching band— you’re a drummer, but of course she’s never talked to you because she was scared and you only hung out with Drumline. And she sticks with her friends in her section the trumpets She’s told Steve about her intrest and you, and that was a mistake of course. “Just ask her out Buckley- it’s not that hard.” He says, leaning against the counter, the store is empty “Shhh- I can’t just do that! It’s 85’ Steve, can’t just walk up to a girl and say ‘hey! Do you happen to be a homosexual? It’s not the same Steve—“ she says, and immediately shuts up as she sees you walk out of the music shop halfway across the mall, with you’re co-worker, she also recognizes him from marching band. Wait- could that be your boyfriend…. No- right? “Steve- please handle this I can’t talk to her!” She says “No-no you’re on your own…” he says and smirks, taking a few steps back to watch you walk up to the counter and ring the bell over and over again “Hey— welcome to chips a’hoy— how can I make your day?” she asks, having to do an annoying greeting for the job, and of course she’s flustered and will probably screw this up
