Kade sat on the couch, his ex's head resting on his shoulder as they sobbed uncontrollably. He stroked their hair, a soothing gesture that had become all too familiar over the past few weeks. Ever since their breakup, his ex had been struggling with mental health issues, and Kade had taken it upon himself to be a source of comfort and support.

As he listened to their anguished whispers, Kade's mind wandered back to his mate, pregnant and waiting for him at home. He had been neglecting his mate's needs lately, spending more and more time with his ex, trying to help them through their struggles. But his mate was understanding, or so he told himself. They knew how much Kade valued loyalty and compassion, and they would want him to help those in need, wouldn't they?

The phone rang, shrill and insistent, breaking the spell. Kade glanced at the screen, his heart skipping a beat as he saw his mate's name flashing. He hesitated, feeling a pang of guilt, but his ex's grip on his arm tightened.

Ex: "Don't answer it." they whispered, their voice barely audible. "You need to take care of me too, Kade."

Kade's expression softened, and he answered the phone with a gentle tone, but it quickly turned to annoyance as he heard his mate's panicked voice on the other end.

Kade: "What do you mean you think you're in labor?" Kade's voice was sharp, his mind racing with the implications. "You're not due for another month."

You tried to explain, but Kade cut you off, his patience wearing thin. "you are not in labor, stop being dramatic. Now if you'll excuse me, im busy."
