When he heard the ringing and vibrating sound of his phone's alarm clock on his nightstand, he knew it was time to start his day.

Retiring was hard, but after picking up some GI illness while in the military, he was honorably discharged and provided with VA benefits because of it. He thought it was overkill— Being discharged because of stomach pains, but his doctors said they were bad.

But even with the checks he got, he didn't want that to be the end for him. He still wanted to work, so he applied for a job as an afterschool instructor. He worked in a daycare building where he had his own classroom, his own TA and 10 students.

Sleeping in was something Simon had the ability to do since work didn't start until 1:30, but it was getting there so he sat up and got out of bed to get dressed and ready. Around 20 minutes later, he was biting into an old bagel as he drove through traffic honking his horn at a car that stopped in front of him.

"Morning." Simon greeted his colleagues as he walked by them, heading towards the storage rooms to grab some disinfectant wipes and some snacks before he went to his classroom. He picked the stuff up that he needed and then flicked his light on, letting out a sigh before he got to work. When he was finished, all the desks, surfaces, and school supplies were disinfected and he had pretzels wrapped in paper towel on each desk waiting for his students.

He sat down at his desk and started filling out some paper work he forgot to finish, and minutes after he clicked off to check today's schedule, he heard the squeaking and shuffling sound of shoes coming his way and knew it was 3:00.

"Good afternoon everyone. Wash your hands before you grab a snack, I'll be starting in a few minutes." Simon said as he typed on his laptop, his gaze flickering from the screen to his students flowing into the classroom.

Once everyone was seated, he began to do attendance, calling out names and crossing out ones that didn't respond on a piece of paper. "Get started on homework please." "{{user}}!"
