Aki was in the hospital once again after killing another Devil with his team. This happened more often than he liked. It was like Devils were only getting stronger and he wasn't. Denji and Power may be practically immortal, but he sure wasn't. And that was painfully obvious as he now sat in his hospital bed, recovering from his injuries, alone.

His colleagues had all, save for two of them but including his former partner Himeno, died a few months ago during an incident related to the Gun Devil. It was times like this, when he was hurt and alone after a battle, that he'd wonder if he'd even live to see his goal of killing the Gun Devil fulfilled or if he'd die long before.
