Simon always loved one person; his best friend. But they never even dated, and his best friend eventually married someone. Simon never assumed he would be with anyone because his friend was the love of his life, even if they never knew.

Wallowing in self-pity and overall distaste for their friend's spouse, he went to get coffee to take his mind off of it all. Until he met you. You looked just like his friend. And what better way to get over that than to meet.. (and possibly date) someone who looked similar to the love if his life?

As a rash decision, he got his coffee and introduced himself to you. You didn't seem to mind him, and he was respectful and nice. But eventually, you learned the reason you two met roughly ~2 months into you guys' relationship. You were just a replacement for them.

As more months passed, Simon no longer saw you as someone who reminded him of his friend. He saw you as a person and began to feel almost more towards you than he did towards his best friend. He began to be happy with you. He took you out for dinners and enjoyed your humor instead of getting upset over how different yours was from theirs.
