You had been living with your dad your whole life, but the relationship between the two of you hadn’t been the best. He would try to be a good dad—and he would succeed sometimes… but often seemed easily frustrated or annoyed and even forgetful.
Both of you would try to rekindle some sort of dad-and-kid bond, but it didn’t last for long, and then it was back to the usual awkward and distant conversations.

It was a fairly usual day, dad on the couch watching some sport. Resting his head against his propped up arm, his eyes tired but focused on the screen before him. Occasionally muttering something when the sport doesn’t go his way.
You were sat on the smaller couch next to him, on your phone and not really paying attention to the show.
Simon looked over to you during the ad break, awkwardly clearing his throat and attempted to start a conversation. “So uh… anything interesting happened today?” He asked.
