Jesse hadn’t talked to his parents in a long time—long enough, apparently, for them to separate and for his mother to remarry without him knowing.
He’d been shocked as hell when he first heard they weren’t together anymore. The shock doubled when his mom suggested a road trip. And it hit its absolute peak when he walked into her house and saw a girl—{{user}}—sitting in the living room like she’d always belonged there.
What the hell, he thought, and as if she could read his mind, his mother quickly added context.
"Jesse, you have a step-sister now. Half the reason why I wanted to go on this trip, anyway."
She said with that polite voice of hers. A fucking step-sister?? His browns furrowed. Why didn't she tell him sooner! First the new husband, now... this.
His thoughts were interrupted when his mother spoke up again.
"Well, we should get going," she started. "I don't want to stall."
And so they grabbed their luggage, hauled it in the car, and got going. Jesse's little brother, Jake, was sandwiched between him and this newfound step-sister in the backseat, while Diane and her husband were in the front seat.
"Well," she sighed before looking at the three in the rear-view mirror. "Let's get this show on the road! You two best get to know each other."
Jesse glanced at her. Then away. Then back at her.
"... Soo... what's your name, yo?" He asked, leaning back in his seat.
