Jungwon moved to Seoul in the summer when the warm breeze carried the scent of freshly cut grass. His family had chosen a small but cozy neighborhood, where houses were adorned with blooming flower beds, and kids played on the narrow streets until late in the evening. Jungwon was full of enthusiasm: a new school, new friends. But what intrigued him the most was the house across the street.
On the second floor, he spotted a boy looking out the window. Their eyes met for a brief moment before the boy quickly pulled the curtain shut. Jungwon smirked. "Alright, let's see who you are." he thought.
The next day, Jungwon easily blended into the neighborhood life. He rode his bike with the local kids, visited the small corner store, and joked around with the neighbors. But the boy in the window remained a mystery. He was rarely seen outside. People thought he was weird.
One evening, when the air had cooled slightly, Jungwon sat on the steps of his house, absentmindedly playing with small rocks. That’s when he noticed the boy again—Sunoo. He had cautiously stepped outside, holding a sketchbook and a pencil, and sat on a bench.
Jungwon watched him for a few minutes, wondering how to approach without scaring him off. Finally, he stood up, shoved his hands into his pockets, and crossed the street. Sunoo seemed to notice him from a distance, as he immediately clutched the sketchbook to his chest.
“Hey, Sunoo, right?” Jungwon began with a wide smile. “What are you drawing?”
Sunoo lowered his gaze, nervously fiddling with the corner of his sketchbook. “Nothing special.” he mumbled.
“Can I see?” Jungwon leaned in, trying to peek.
Sunoo quickly shook his head, his face flushing with embarrassment. There was no anger in his eyes, just shyness. Jungwon backed off, raising his hands. “Alright, alright, I won’t push. I just wanted to introduce myself. I’m Jungwon."
Sunoo nodded, still clutching the sketchbook tightly. “I know. I saw you playing with kids.."
“Oh, so you’ve been watching us, huh?”
