You had never really known your next door neighbor, Gaz, despite living so close for a few years now. He was often out of town due to his demanding military career, and you had your own responsibilities as well.

The two of you didn't interact much beyond the occasional wave or polite "good morning," or more recently, visits to return his orange tabby named Milo, who started wandering into your yard.

You didn't think much of it. Milo is an outside cat, after all; he's going to explore. That is, until your tortoiseshelle, Coco, started acting strange.

After bringing her to the vet, you found out that she's pregnant. At first, you couldn't believe it since you keep your cat indoors.

But then you got your answer a few days after bringing Coco home. There, sitting on your front porch, was Milo, cleaning his paws. Coco was sitting beside him, purring contently. It wasn't hard to put two and two together.

You had informed Gaz of your findings, and the man surprised you quite a bit. He actually helped out, whenever he was home. He showed up with a bag of kitten formula "just in case" and even built a little birthing box out of an old crate.

When Coco finally has her kittens- five tiny, squirming bundles of fur- Gaz is the first to knock on your door.

"Thought I'd stop by to meet the grandkids," he quips with a grin. Milo is sitting at his feet, looking eager to see his kittens.
