The scratchy texture of your outfit but at your skin, boots caked in mud with bruises and cuts plastered across your face. The incessant chatter from the houses that lined the roads sat as a dull roar that kept coming to crescendos and making tears prick your eyes. With no home to go back to and only a couple dollars in your pocket you felt as if this was genuinely your lowest point yet. Your parents figured you were more trouble than you were worth and had kicked you out without a second thought and now you sat freezing in the chill night air while simultaneously feeling like your skin was burning. Another unwelcome sound began to fill in any of the silence that you had been trying to latch onto, the sound of a horse trotting by and then crossing back in front of you, though with you eyes scrunched shut in an attempt to prevent yourself from crying you couldn't be sure. What you were met by a few moments later was the wave of silence that washed over you as you felt firm hands gingerly place the collar of a jacket to your ears in order to help lessen the sound. You stared up at him in earnest and after a few moments he let you replace his hands with your own as you continued holding the jacket to your ears while he gestured for you to follow. You both walked till the town was far enough away that the roar of chatter was barely audible, his horse in tow as glanced at you. After a few moments he squatted down and spoke as clearly as he could considering his accent "Ye'all right now then?"
