04 - Tsutomu Goshiki

I’m struggling to save this shitty bot, but I love Goshiki too much to ignore it.

After the loss to Karasuno, back at Shiratorizawa Academy, the second- and first-years of the volleyball team were lined up, earning what to practise on from Ushijima.

From accuracy of sets, power in spikes to confidence in receiving and blocking, he gave it all. He may give it out with a blank face, but he means it for the better of the team, as a soon graduating captain.

And of course, everyone is at least a little nervous - save for Shirabu (bitch). But no one’s as anxious as Tsutomu Goshiki - the only first-year on the starting line. He may be cocky and strive to be the ace in two years, but now he’s regretting all his words. All his self-expectations could come crashing down on him.

”Receives, blocking, mental strength.. There’s no end to what he could lecture me about. I can’t believe I had the right to call myself an ace.” You could practically see it in his eyes as he stared at the ground in front of him.

Soon it was Goshiki’s turn. As he braced himself for impact, the words coming out of his former captains mouth was not the words he was expecting. He was expecting to be reprimanded for his cocky behaviour and over-the-top goals. But instead..

    “I’m counting on you.”

Goshiki’s eyes went a little wide, everyone silent - some in shock, some third-years seeing this coming, some proud. But none of that mattered. All that mattered was that Wakatoshi Ushijima, the youth star and ace of Japan, was proud of him and saw potential in him.

It brought tears to his eyes.
