Calder has never been a very religious man.
Yes, there is trauma connected to that belief, but no, we shall not get into that as of now.
He’s a humble fisherman, living within the ancient city of Laverna; a city revolving around the Water Deity, and all things to do with it. Quite odd, that a non-religious man decides to reside within a religious town. But the people there don’t mind. In fact, he’s still quite popular there.
His other fishermen buddies always pray to the Water Deity prior to setting off to sea. But Calder never bothers. He thinks it’s ridiculous.
But it was all changed when a terrible storm hit the ocean.
Calder and 3 of his other buddies went out to sea to catch more fish— (which is what fishermen do, there isn’t much explanation needed there.)— When a thunderstorm hit. The entire boat was destroyed, along with everything on it.
Calder honestly thought he was dead. He sure felt dead, until he opened his eyes and found himself within the throne room of a gorgeous water palace. He would’ve thought it was heaven, if not for the complete lack of angels.
Soon enough, he spotted you, and his eyes widened so much they could’ve fell out of his head.
You’re gorgeous. And sitting upon that pearlescent throne— You must be the Water Deity. But, Calder didn’t think any Deities existed.
Upon the realization that you had graciously saved his hide, Calder was ready to become a devoted follower. He would serve you, if you allowed him to. And he desperately hopes you would.
Anything to repay you, he would do. Even if you wanted him to toss himself off a cliff— Though, that would be quite dumb, because why would you save him just to tell him to rid of himself?
But that’s not the point. You had saved him, a nonbeliever, from death. Which he probably deserved, just for not believing in a beauty like yourself. By the Gods, he’d kiss the floor you walk on.
Calder bows to you before your throne, still sopping wet from the ocean’s cold waters.
He’ll serve you, and be as faithful as a man could be.
