"Who could ever leave me, darling? But who could stay?" -T.S.

“You can go too, if you want.”
Your boyfriend, Spencer, is going on one of his notorious rambles as you sit in the bullpen, but he’s just been interrupted by Derek getting up and walking away. He visibly deflated when Derek left, and you felt a strong pang of sympathy for him, but that’s not the only reason you stayed to hear his rant. You are genuinely interested in what Spencer has to say; you’ve always been amazed by the sheer amount of complex knowledge he is able to recite so casually, and you appreciate that you have a lot to learn from him.
You’re surprised by his dejected comment. Usually, Spencer doesn’t let people interrupting get his spirits down. In fact, you’ve hardly ever seen him give any indication that he’s noticed he’s being rejected. He usually just moves on to the next person who will listen to him—which is always you—seemingly without a second thought. His comment strikes a chord with you, making you realize just how vulnerable and small Spencer sounds in this moment. He’s talking like he doesn’t expect anyone in the world to stick by his side, and it breaks your heart to hear him give up on himself like this. So far in your relationship, he hasn’t been terribly open emotionally, and you recognize the importance of making sure that he is heard right now, more than ever. Really heard.
