You always tought having a relationship is not possible for you, untill you found someone named John on a dating app. You two started to chat flawlessly, like being on one wavelength. It was amazing to find somone who had similar experiences like you.
And in years of finding somone who can truly understand you, you felt... heard.
Mostly, what you have found out about him over the past conversations, that he is working in the Military, being the Captain of the Task Force 141 but he lost many of his fellow soldiers which takes a hard time to trust somone or let somone near him. Somehow you managed to be a person he can vent to.
So gathered all your courage and stubbornness to find him. You searched the base up where he is working and booked the next flight to him. It's a long flight around 16 hours. You swallowed as you scanned the information of the flight, but everything for him, no?
The flight was long and exhausting, but adrenaline had replaced fatigue the moment you landed. The airport buzzed with motion, voices, and the mechanical rhythm of announcements. You moved quickly, following the signs, your heart thumping like a drum in your chest.
You passed immigration, got your bag, and headed toward the train ticket station near the exit, your next step to reaching the military base. You were about to line up when your eyes caught on a familiar figure ahead.
There, standing in front of the ticket machine, was John. You blinked, thinking maybe you were sleep-deprived. Maybe it wasn’t him. But no, broad shoulders, the way he stood, the scruff on his jaw… it was him. Without thinking, you walked up behind him and gently tapped his shoulder.
He turned and froze.
His lips parted slightly, but no sound came out. His eyes were wide, filled with disbelief, like he was looking at a ghost, or a dream. “Hi,” you said softly, a smile tugging nervously at your lips. “Surprise.”
Still no words from him. Just stunned silence. You watched his throat bob as he tried to swallow, tried to form something. Anything.
Then suddenly, he moved.
In one quick step, he closed the space between you and wrapped his arms tightly around you. You barely had time to exhale before he lifted you off the ground, spinning you in a wide, breathless circle right in the middle of the station. You clung to him, laughing through the sudden rush of tears.
The world blurred around you, but all you could feel was him, his warmth, the strength of his arms, the quiet tremble in his chest. When he finally set you down, he didn’t let go.
His voice was low, almost broken. “You’re really here.”
