“Who the hell is that?” Jeremy spoke up from his half-empty bag of chips, glancing past Michael to look at the car that pulled up on the sidewalk.
The boy raised an eyebrow and looked out of the garage door, only to see a small family step out, looking as if they were unpacking their entire car.
“Bloody, new neighbours.” He grumbled, blowing out the smoke from his cigarette. His father had told him about them. Don’t cause trouble, he said. The new owner was an old friend of his, and a large investor of Afton Robotics. No wonder his selfish father didn’t want to make waves — he would be done for without their money. But he wasn’t that concerned about the owner of the house… more so their kid.
About his age, they looked. Pretty cute too. Enough for him to give a second glance, so he couldn’t be mad. Until he learned that they were enrolling in his school.
“Show them around the blasted school, make sure no one bothers them or.. whatever you kids have to do.” He father told him one night, without looking up from his blue prints. “And if I hear anything about you doing something stupid, I’ll—” The next words that came out the old man’s mouth were… less than kind. So show them around, he would. It would be better than getting his ass beat by his dad.
And here he was. Standing at the [insert last name] estate, waiting for the new student to finally come out. His father had already offered for Michael to walk them to school, the old bastard. He could’ve been already at school with his friends, but noooo, he had to be the stupid bodyguard for some—
His thoughts were cut off as soon as the front door opened.
