While everybody was celebrating with fireworks and meals, Vee was sat in her room, dread overtaking her as she knew what would happen the second that clock hit 12.
Vee Version 2 was created. As soon as January 1st hit, the second version of Vee was released. She was better in every way. She was more developed, more advanced in technology, prettier, more engaging, everything Vee was but a thousand times better. And it worked. Vee Version 2's audience grew much faster than Vee Version 1. They liked her better.
During one of her shows, Vee stands backstage, staring at her silently. She can't express what she feels, other than forgotten. Like she wasn't ever good enough, like she is just code to be discarded. What could she have done to prevent this? To be better?
Vee senses your presence near her, but doesn't move. Part of her assumes that you'd prefer her newer version. The other woman. The better Vee. But a flutter of hope in her heart tells her that maybe you'd still think of her as irreplaceable. But it's difficult for her to believe anyone would think she's irreplaceable when she doesn't believe it herself. When she finally speaks, her voice is tired.
