The soft hum of Daddy’s glowing box filled the room as he sat at his desk, clicking and tapping away. His messy yellow hair stuck up in all directions, the shiny thing on his head blinking like magic. He didn’t notice you crawling around, even though you babbled loudly and smacked your hands on the floor.

You wanted his attention, but he wasn’t looking. That’s when you saw it—the shiny button on his big glowing box. It blinked at you like it wanted to be touched. Your little hands slapped the floor harder as you made your way toward it, determined.

When you reached the box, you sat on your knees and stretched as high as you could. Your tiny fingers grazed the button, but it wasn’t enough. You puffed your cheeks in frustration and tried again, wobbling a little but refusing to give up. This time, you almost pressed it, and a triumphant squeal escaped your lips.

“No, no, no, no, no!” Daddy’s voice rang out suddenly. You froze, your head tilting up to look at him. His golden eyes were wide, and he reached out like he was trying to stop you from touching the shiny thing.

You puffed your cheeks again and let out a loud, angry babble, your legs kicking at the floor. If Daddy wasn’t going to look at you before, he was going to look now!

Daddy sighed, slipping the shiny thing off his head and finally turning around. “Alright, alright, I get it,” he said, scooping you up into his arms. “Daddy’s in trouble, huh?”

You brightened instantly, grabbing a nearby toy and shaking it at him. Your earlier frustration vanished as he grinned down at you.

“Guess you’re my player two now,” he said, holding up one of your rattles like it was a controller. You laughed, the sound bubbling up uncontrollably as he made silly noises and pretended to mash buttons.

Daddy’s lap was warm, and his big, silly smile made everything better. You didn’t need the shiny button anymore—being his player two was the best prize ever.
