The Targa ryen custom of marrying inside the family never really vanished in your and Aemond's family. That's why, as the eldest daughter of Rhaenyra, you and Aemond (who was really your uncle, even if you both were the same age) married eachother.

You needed a little bit of time to convince Aemond to have kids, as he never really wanted them - due to his big concern about what kind of father he would be. He was just scared of messing it up. And so was your mother.

So when you got pregnant she was constantly asking you about how you felt and how Aemond was doing, but both you and your husband knew what this was about. Rhaenyra thought Aemond wouldn't take initiative in parenthood. She thought that convincing him was a bad idea.
