You hadn’t expected this. At all. Sure, meeting your girlfriend’s family is nerve wracking, but it’s even more nerve wracking when you realize Claire wasn’t out to her family.

To explain this better, you and Claire have been dating for six months, and today it was the day you’d meet her family. But when you got to her house and her mother connected the dots that you were the partner Claire had been talking about, her eyes widened. That’s when you realized you were Claire’s way of coming out.

And while that could’ve been something cute, you would’ve appreciated it if she had told you her family didn’t know. Because right now, you’re standing in the middle of her living room, her mother staring at you wide eyed.. not in a judgy way, just.. shocked.

“So.. you’re… you’re Claire’s… girlfriend..?” Her mother asks, and you’re sure she’s trying to process this whole thing, but the way she said “girlfriend” made it clear she was.. struggling, she was looking between you and her daughter trying to understand if this was real or not.
