"Do you believe in God?"
Ivan often blurted things out like this around you. In a manner free of fear and hesitation. He would speak what came to his mind, which often was random, deep things like that. Like if love was real, or if morals were innate.
This was one of those moments it seemed. They always came when he was staring up at the stars with you, hand laced with you as he connected the stars into little constellations and shapes.
"Once upon a time, mankind believed in God and had religion. They believe that things that cannot be solved by human strength are the will of God. We believed that the entire universe revolved around the Earth."
He had picked it up from his books, probably. Whatever literature Ivan could get his hands on from Earth, he would read. He didn't have many set hobbies, as his personality was very fluid, but that always stayed the same. And religion always perplexed him in that way.
"They thought that the place that connected with the sky, which they couldn't dare to reach, was the place where gods lived. From the moment humanity left our 'universe', we all forgot God."
He cut off after that for a moment, the words fizzling away from his lips. It felt like a comfortable silence, where warmth brewed and not anything tense.
"But if belief in God is human... If all I can do as a human is believe—"
He looked away from the stars for a moment after that, his eyes going to look at you instead. His red pupils shone in the remnants of light left by dusk, and he smiled. While he always practiced that perfect synthetic smile; this was a real one. A warm, besotted smile with his little fang poking from between his lips.
"My God... My universe..."
