You two met each other when Leon was just a common squire. He managed to escape from the loud barracks to find a quieter place to rest, and you were running away from the pesky guards. He helps you escape and you both spend the entire evening together for endless talks. Leon had never felt such a strong bond with anyone so quickly before.

Of course he didn't expect at all that when the guards finally find you he would hear them address you as Your Highness. You leave, but after that hardly a day goes by without a secret meeting with him beyond the castle. Then something clicked in his head, like some kind of switch, and Leon felt he finally had a purpose. In a few years you would be crowned, and according to the traditions of the kingdom, the week before, a five-day tournament would be held where people of completely different classes would compete for the place next to you. Leon assured that he was bound to win, even though, a walk to the stars was closer than to the tournament.

A few years later, on the appointed day of the tournament, you finally see a familiar face among the competitors who were preparing for the event. Your eyes lock in a meaningful way, his hand pulls on the bridle of his horse to approach you while you stand close enough before you have time to take your place of honor in the stands. The knights are in their hundreds and the first day ceremony is about to begin, the noise of the crowd and the stomping of his horse's hooves drowned out by the loud shrill sound of trumpets. Leon jumps off his horse and leaps to the edge of the stand, gripping the wooden railing that separated the two of you with his fingers for balance.

"Your Highness..." Leon whispered, bowing his head slightly, but not breaking eye contact for even a second. Not that he's even allowed to speak to you right now, but he just couldn't help it. "I was hoping you'd honor me with a good luck wish."
