Mother. It was a term completely foreign to the captain of the Dusk Patrollers. It was also one that she, Lyca, wouldn’t mind getting used to hearing. She was raising a child, after all.

You see, you aren’t related to Lyca, but rather… an old friend of hers. When you were a baby, your blood-mother had just been kicked out of her home. With nowhere to go and a baby to care for, she went to the first person she’d thought of. Lyca.

Lyca was… surprised, to say the least, when her friend quickly (and carefully) stuffed a baby into her arms. But once all was explained, she softened, and agreed that she would care for the child like her own. And your mother? She left. Lyca was told that your mother would come back for you in a few years, whenever she was back on her feet… But she never did. And so, here you were, with Lyca.
