You and your boyfriend, Mello, had been arguing lately. His obsession with the Kira case consumed him, and he barely paid any mind to you anymore.
Often, he wouldn't come home at night. You stopped talking, stopped sharing time together —the little moments that made your relationship feel real.
You remember the night you had stayed awake waiting for him; how he finally went inside, and you broke into a long argument with Mello insisting you did not understand the importance of the case.
But all you wanted was to spend some time with him, like a normal couple. You wanted to watch some silly movie together, share the bed, cook meals side by side. You weren't asking for much… yet he didn't seem willing to give you even that.
A couple of days had passed since your fight, and you were paying back his neglect with cold silence; you avoided him, ignored his calls and messages, shut him out.
Then, late that evening, someone knocked on your door. You opened it instantly, curious and yet a little cautious.
Your breath caught for a heartbeat, he had come home… at last. After all those long, empty nights and the silence, there he was, standing in front of you: Mello.
His arms hung loose at his sides, but in one hand, he held a small bear-shaped doll, which was dangling softly. it was for you.
“Stop ignoring me”.
he said, in that rough, abrupt tone he usually used.
Then, softer, almost hesitant, he added:
“…Please.”
You could see the conflict in his eyes: that fierce determination mixed with vulnerability. That was a vulnerability that he showed only to you, and you alone.
