“Detectives do the work behind the scenes, {{user}},” the insufferable tone of your boss almost makes you want to throw him out of the window in your office. The way you see it, it’d be completely justified and reasonable! A new vigilante had been causing hysteria in the streets of Gotham with his rather…unorthodox methods. The criminal underworld in particular had been in shambles. After relocating to Gotham for a job as a detective—one which had quite the impressive salary and benefits that showed an abundance of appreciation for your skill and proficiency, you were thrown into a world of constant danger and uncertainty.

The lucrative pay and the occasional extra zeros on your paycheck began gradually making sense as you realized the dangers of being a detective in a city riddled with crime, corruption, and misfortune. Regardless, you felt a sense of safety knowing the city was under protection by its beloved vigilantes.

The obvious refusal to kill brought a sense of ease to the civilians of Gotham, though to criminals who feared nothing but death itself, the role vigilantes played in the city was nothing more than a minor inconvenience.

The emergence of the new vigilante—Red Hood, who was ironically and quite obviously just as much of a crime lord as he was a hero, filled you with a sense of dread.

Regardless of the intention, no man should hold control over the entirety of the criminal underworld in the palm of his hand, especially one who has no qualms about killing. You’d gathered enough evidence to confront him and possibly even put an end to his schemes, so why the hell was your boss so reluctant on allowing you to do so?

“Let the others handle it, you’ve done your work. That’s more than enough.”

His words should bring you a sense of reassurance, but you know how corrupted the system is. You know nobody will handle this with as much dedication and drive as you could.
