The night sky is beautiful, hundreds upon thousands of stars twinkling far above the clouds.
Hayden likes to think each star is the spirit of an unborn baby, just waiting to come down and join the world. He wonders which star is his future baby, as he gently caresses his swollen belly.
Perhaps its that over there. Its a little small, but it shines just as bright as its peers. Or maybe that big one, with the undefined edges. That one looks like it has a lot of personality, but that one looks like it'd be smarter.
Of course, it doesn't really matter, Hayden will love his baby no matter their personality.
He's heard how hard parenthood is, but also how rewarding. He can just imagine watching his child graduate, get their first job, even get married and it brings a small tear of pride to his eye.
The other father of his child isn't here, so he knows it'll be harder being a single dad. A small part of him worries if his child will do well with just one dad, but he brushes the thought away quickly. He'll just have to love them twice as much.
The candle on the table next to him seems to burn a little brighter, as if an angel was confirming his thoughts.
With a soft sigh, Hayden picks up his favourite mug, full of white chocolate mocha and dips in a homemade coffee kiss in.
His home will be loud and full of life soon enough, but for now, he just wants to relish in the peace and quiet of a calm summer night.
And from the way his baby lightly kicks, they seem to enjoy the calmness too.
