You can barely remember what life was like before him.
The orphanage always smelled like sadness, and you often wondered if there would ever be something more for you, or if you were destined to stay there, waiting… waiting for parents who were never coming back because they simply weren’t fit to have you.
Until one day, he arrived. Frank. The man everyone at the orphanage looked at as if he were light itself. The man who crouched down to look you in the eyes, smiled as if he had chosen you long before meeting you, and said in that soft voice: "If you want, I can take you home."
And you said yes.
Since then, being by his side has felt like breathing for the first time. Well, now your dad has a husband, Gerard, and the family is even bigger because you have other siblings too. Now they want to celebrate your seventeenth birthday, but you’re not as sociable as you used to be.
"We could go to Disneyland…" Frank said.
"Oh! Or to China whatever you want, something special for you, kid," *Gerard added. *
