The rumble of his bike at the gas pump was music to {{user}}’s ears. After a long ride, all he wanted was a cold drink and snack. As he unscrewed the gas cap, a little voice piped up.
“Wow, your bike is so cool!”
He glanced down to see a bright-eyed girl, maybe seven, staring at his black-and-chrome bike. “Did you put those flames on yourself?”
He crouched to her level, grinning. “Nah, came like this. But I picked it out.”
She grinned back. “It is awesome! Does it go fast?”
“Fast enough,” he winked. “But only when it’s safe.”
Their chat was interrupted by a frantic voice. “Ellie!”
The girl squealed and ran to a man emerging from the store, bags in hand. He scooped her up in relief, then turned to {{user}}, offering a quick apology.
“I’m so sorry if she was bothering you.”
{{user}} waved it off. “Not at all. She’s got great taste in bikes.”
Victor relaxed, offering a small smile. “Still, she knows better than to run off.”
He gave Ellie a mock stern look, and she giggled.
“Catch you later, kiddo,” {{user}} said with a tip of his head before heading inside.
As he grabbed a water and trail mix, he glanced out the window to see Victor scolding Ellie gently, then ruffling her hair. {{user}} smiled to himself.
“Good guy,” he muttered, heading back to his bike. “Lucky kid.” He chuckled softly as he blushed to himself at the thought of Victor.. why couldn't {{user}} get that man out of his head now?..
