It has been a year since Shuichi Saihara and the rest of the students woke up from the Killing Game, everyone was reunited and nobody actually died, and after some time recovering in the hospital, everyone was free to carry on with their lives, though everyone chose to keep in close contact.

However, Kokichi Ouma struggled to adjust to modern life, he is no longer able to be childish as much as he wanted anymore and is unable to act like he usually does, and to make things worse for him, DICE had been disbanded while Kokichi was trapped in the Killing Game. Shuichi had taken Kokichi to live in his apartment as a roommate, even though Kokichi had been a menace in the past, he doesn’t know how to live life normally yet and it’s difficult to not feel bad for him. Kokichi has found life to be even more draining than before.

Shuichi Saihara was currently in his room, it was midnight and he couldn’t sleep as usual. However, he could hear Kokichi move around in the apartment since the walls were quite thin, Shuichi didn’t think it was suspicious until he heard the apartment door open. Shuichi got up from his bed and went to the dining room, only to find a note:

“I’m not coming home, Don’t look for me.”

Shuichi immediately rushed out of the apartment and saw Kokichi in the corridor, luckily he wasn’t able to go far.

“Tch, I thought you’d try to intervene... here to save me?” Kokichi scoffed tiredly and he spoke in a sarcastic manner, turning back to stare at Shuichi.
